Today I shall be ranting about Queen Coonta I: Stacey Dash
(she has suspected of bleaching her skin and her ex boyfriend recently exposed her for doing so)
Most people probably know Stacey Dash from the 90′s coming of age movie Clueless and its short lived tv show that nobody could even give half a fuck about.
When I first saw clueless, I honestly loved Stacey Dash’s character. I loved how she was playing a black girl who didn’t play into any stereotypes. I thought that is was great that a movie as popular Clueless had shown so many people a black girl who wore her hair in box braids, that came from a wealthy family, and was not in an all black clique. I loved how her character showed the diversity of black girls, but now I truly cannot stand Stacey Dash.
I truly started to dislike her when she went on the Meredith Vieira Show just to say that women complain about not getting equal pay as an excuse for not wanting to work hard. Bitch what? If there have been studies to show that women in the same positions that put in the same amount of work, or more, are being paid less than their male counterparts how is that an excuse to not work hard? Meredith herself even said that for the majority of her career she was being paid less than the men she worked with. Eventually, Stacey begins to hear the bullshit she had be spewing about and seems to malfunction a bit. Thankfully she did that interview with Meredith Vieira who was able to gracefully shut her down, because if that had been me I would have jumped on her ass.
Most recently Queen Coonta I decided that the proper response to many black celebrities boycott of the whiter than the upcoming blizzard Oscars, the award show that somehow managed to nominate the 2 white people that worked on Straight Outta Compton, was to criticize black media.
When Stacey was asked about the boycott, she thought that a proper response would be that channels like BET, TV1, Centric, etc. shouldn’t exist as they promote segregation along with the BET Awards and Black History Month as they only promote or celebrate you if you are black and if it were the other way around people would be livid.
First, let’s talk about your feelings on black history month. If you knew anything about black history, you’d know that we had to make institutions for ourselves because the major institutions wouldn’t accept us. For example, American history textbooks rarely touch on any black history. All of the topics that are talked about regarding black history are slavery and the civil rights movement. Though black people have contributed so much more to American society that is the only part of our history that is discussed in the classroom and slavery is quickly skipped over. Textbooks do not talk about Black Wall Streetorthe creation of the traffic light and gas mask by Garrett Morgan. As a matter of fact textbooks in Texas don’t even teach about slavery correctly. So is one month, the shortest month of the year, too much to ask for to at least acknowledge this history?
Ms. Dash, I would like you to know that there is a reason why channels like BET exist. BET and channels similar to it exist because most mainstream channels are hesitant to produce shows that are centered around black people. Yes, today we have shows like Scandal, Empire, and Blackish, but that is still only three shows on network television and in 1979 there were probably none. That is why Robert Johnson created the channel to showcase the shows that no other network would air.
Since we talked about BET, let’s talk about the BET Awards. Let me be the first to tell you that white people have DEFINITELY been nominated for BET Awards even though they were created to celebrate music, tv, cinema, etc. created by black people because major award shows wouldn’t recognize them. Sound Familiar????? Now in the past few years I could tell you some white people that have been nominated for BET awards. Iggy Azalea was nominated last year for best female rap artist (even though she sucks and has disrespected hip hop culture numerous times), Sam Smith was nominated and won an award for what I believe best R&B, and Eminem was probably nominated for one as well.
I honestly don’t understand why Stacey feels the need to criticize BET when she has appeared on the channel when she was on the show The Game, and countless music video appearances. BET also felt this way and decided to come back for her with style.
And just like the mature adult she is, Stacey responded by saying that a) this (the game) was a prime example of why BET shouldn’t exist because not that many people knew of the show b) BET Lies to black people by telling them that everyone is racist and c) BET has not made any good shows in general
Honestly, nobody really asked for her opinion on BET’s response so why did she feel the need to keep going.
Like the debater that I am I will negate her three contentions and prove that she is an idiot.
A) More people knew about The Game than they did about your TV show Clueless. Shit, the game was originally aired on the CW starting in 2006 and got cancelled, but BET saw it had potential and revived it and it just ended in 2015. Now your show that nobody knew about, Clueless, started in 1996 on ABC and was only there for its first season. Then it got moved to a now defunct network called UPN where it was left for two seasons to die until 1999 when it was finally put out of its misery. So if you look at the numbers, the Game had a large enough following for another network to pick it up and produce 6 more seasons of it, while your show had one season at a well known network, got moved to another network and got the ax after 2 seasons.
B) How did you draw this conclusion? What did you watch on BET that made YOU think that everyone was racist? BET stands for Black Entertainment Television that means that the channel solely exists for entertainment. It is possible that you watched an episode of a show in which a character experiences racial discrimination, but that is something that is a typical occurrence in the life of any person of color. Actually if you look at the foundation of BET, they never lied about anything. They spoke the truth. There were shows like Teen Summit that discussed important issues that ALL teenagers faced. Not just the black teens, even though they probably had special episodes dedicated to discussing issues that primarily affect black teens and teens of color.
c) What do you mean that BET has not made any good shows? Bitch, you were on the game as a recurring character for 2 seasons. you obviously liked the script enough to take their cheques, so why are you complaining now? Being Mary Jane (2013-/), starring Gabrielle Union, has an 81% rotten tomatoes rating while YOUR show that you STARRED ON has a 57% rating on IMDb. The Game has an 69% on IMDb, which is still better than Clueless. I honestly don’t even know why I dignified this argument with a response, but it’s fun to prove people wrong.
I hope that this post has enlightened you and that, just like your show, your Cluelessness has come to an end.
